The Annoyance of Introducing Solids

Updated: Apr 24, 2020

This is the most exciting, yet the most annoying thing I have faced yet with Bennett.

Exciting, just in the fact we are moving in a direction of food! Boy do we love food in #theritchiehousehold, so hopefully Bennett will be a #foodie like his dad and I! He hasn't said momma yet either so this has the number 1 spot for exciting so far..probably tied with only waking once a night, but thats another post.

And here's why its annoying.... IT'S ALOT OF WORK! Like a whole new routine of things and prep to be done, I mean he isn't eating chicken off the bone yet so I can't just put it in front of him. Cooking, puree'ing, freezing, bagging, thawing, then finally eating!

I bought silicone ice trays for this! It helps in creating smaller portion sizes. I got mine at Home Goods #beststoreever I think I spent less then $10!! Then just buy a couple extra items than usual of fruits and veggies while at the store!

These are the ones that were made while my mother-in-law was in town! We used the Instapot for steaming the veggies! #lovemyinstapot

Sweet potatoes - Steam with 2 cups for 15 minutes - Natural Release - Drain excess water

Potatoes (we used red) - Steam with 1 cup of water for 12 minutes - Natural Release - Drain excess water

Carrots - Steam with 1 1/2 cups of water for 10 minutes - Natural Release

Broccoli (with sliced stocks) - Steam with 2 cups of water for 15 minutes - Natural Release

I also pureed home canned peaches - puree and then put in the ice cube trays and once frozen put into a freezer bag and label!

I grabbed a couple extra avocados from the store, once ripe cut each side up into 4 pieces and place on a tray with parchment paper, once frozen put into a freezer bag and label! I also have heard the frozen avocado from Costco is a great go-to, I just haven't tried this yet!!

So it's a lot of work, (this was one day of prep) but its all apart of the motherhood journey!

Let me know what you guys think and comment with any questions!
